World Refugee Day 2017 is coming up and Bridge Refugee Services, in partnership with Coming to America and Mad Priest Events, is putting on quite the celebration!
Bring the whole family for an evening of culture...incredible food from around the world (prepared by past and present clients of Bridge), riveting stories of refugees’ journeys to the US, live music, and an interactive art station for the kiddos.
Tuesday, June 20th, 6-9pm at The Camp House. Suggested (highly) donation of $5 at the door.
We are so thankful to each of you who continually provide opportunities for refugees to create a new home and a new life here, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. Thank you for making Chattanooga a welcoming community! #RefugeesWelcome
ABOUT WORLD REFUGEE DAY:
The United Nations’ World Refugee Day has been celebrated on June 20 every year since 2001 (marking 50 years since the 1951 Refugee Convention). We honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. And we acknowledge their plight and their resilience, but also reflect on what we can do in order to help those who are forced to flee to find safety, regain hope, and rebuild their lives.
ABOUT BRIDGE REFUGEE SERVICES:
Bridge is an ecumenical, nonprofit organization that facilitates the resettlement of refugees in Chattanooga. We are dedicated to supporting refugee families and asylum-seekers in their efforts to achieve economic and social self-sufficiency. We are an affiliate of Episcopal Migration Ministries, one of nine national agencies that collaborate with the U.S. Department of State and United Nations in their combine effort to protect one of the most vulnerable groups of population, refugees, through resettlement.
Bridge assists refugees by locating affordable housing, setting apartments, assisting with English language acquisition, and finding jobs that will help them become self-sufficient. Through Bridge, more than 1000 refugees from Burundi, Bosnia, Cuba, Sudan, Colombia, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Vietnam, Ukraine, Syria and elsewhere have been successfully resettled in the Chattanooga area since 1996.
